![]() ![]() Directed by Irwin Allen, who was also responsible for The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno, the film featured a stellar cast including Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, Fred MacMurray, Patty Duke, Olivia de Havilland and Michael Caine, who concludes, ‘If we’re lucky, the world may just survive!’īee Movie, an animated feature from 2007 starring the voices of Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, John Goodman and Chris Rock, has a different theme, delivering an environmental message as a honey bee sues the human race for exploiting its species. Like The Deadly Bees from 1967, and the big-budget disaster movie The Swarm, which was released in 1978. Typically, most belong to the horror genre and gave focussed upon the aggressive tendencies of ‘Africanised’ bees ( or ‘killer bees’) to cause potential mayhem. Positive messages include how one life can make a difference.Bees have been central to the plot of many movies over the years. There are also plenty of positive role models, and Barry makes mistakes along the way, like when the plants wither, but learns from them and improves his way of life, and the other main characters, like Vanessa and Adam, are positive role models all the way through. There is a little educational value about bees and what they do for the environment and also about making honey and what goes wrong in the world, such as withering plants, if bees don’t do their jobs, as well as infusing entertainment, like when bees graduating from school and choosing what job they want. ![]() It is good for the entire family, and everything humorous about the movie represents Jerry Seinfeld’s style of comedy. This movie provides even more proof of how talented Jerry Seinfeld is, and it is also nerve-calming and entertaining. Other jokes geared toward adults reference Larry King, Sting, and Ray Liotta, and a mosquito makes a blood-sucking lawyer joke. There are no overarching villains or monsters but Barry does run across some dead bug bodies, some humans are held at gunpoint, and Barry and Vanessa talk about a "suicide pact." While they may go over young heads, there are a few questionable jokes, like when Barry calls Bees "honey slaves to the White man" or his parents request he find a girl who's "Beeish" (the insect equivalent of being Jewish). ![]() A few tense moments involve Barry's pell-mell flights through Manhattan and humans trying to kill bugs. Barry and friends (both human and bee) show courage by standing up for what they believe and working as a team. While the film is mainly a vehicle for star Jerry Seinfeld's comedy, the good news is that it's a film that even little kids can follow. Parents need to know that Bee Movie is an animated comedy about a bee who wants to do something different than what his hive expects. ![]()
